As a vital member of the Development team, the Development Manager will raise funds for the work of the Royal Lyceum Theatre. They will lead on income generation activities, raising funds via Trusts & Foundations, Corporates, and individual giving fundraising working alongside the Director of Development.

The Development Manager will have demonstrable fundraising experience, preferably with a Trusts and Foundations background.

Using first-class stewardship experience, the Development Manager will maintain positive relationships with all funders, ensuring all stewardship is in line with the stewardship framework of the Theatre and in compliance with the Fundraising Codes of Practice in Scotland. The post holder will develop high quality cases for support and ensure they are tailored to each relevant funder.

Job Description
  • To support the fundraising efforts and development strategies of the Royal Lyceum Theatre, helping to achieve income targets for the organisation.
  • To meet income targets as set by Royal Lyceum Theatre as a purpose of this role.
  • To lead on Trusts and Foundation income stream. The postholder will lead on developing fundraising relationships with Trusts and Foundations, manage and develop the Lyceum rolling programme of Trust approaches.
  • Work closely with the Director of Development to develop corporate relationships and acquire new corporate donors, support corporate fundraising activity.
  • Nurture existing funding relationships through regular contact and preparing timely evaluation and monitoring reports including for individual giving, corporate supporters and Trusts and Foundations.
  • To research and develop a prospect pipeline for Trusts and Foundations, create and manage a rolling programme of trust approaches, Corporates, and Individual givers, working closely with all other members of the Development Team, the Board, and the wider staff team.
  • Support the development of new and fundable revenue project strands to help further the strategic aims and grow the cultural offer of The Lyceum, delegating work in this area where appropriate.
  • Work with the Director of Development in planning new funder approaches and major application deadlines across the year.
  • Contribute to the overall activities of the Development Department, including attending Development events, Opening Nights, and Patron events.
  • Be responsible for raising income for Lyceum, working alongside the wider Development team.
  • To be accountable to the Director of Development for any agreed budgets for specific campaigns. To ensure the effective day-to-day management of any income and expenditure budget as agreed with the Director of Development.
  • To liaise with the Finance team in the management of departmental budgets for the Development team and forthe monitoring and evaluation of funded projects.
  • To be accountable to the Director of Development for any agreed finances for specific campaigns or tasks within the agreed objectives of the department.
  • To work closely and collaboratively with the Marketing Team to maximize effective dissemination of Development messages.
  • Work closely with the Box Office and Front of House teams to ensure all Development campaigns are understood and promoted with confidence by all frontline teams.
  • Promote the work of The Royal Lyceum Theatre to internal and external audiences.
  • To represent The Royal Lyceum Theatre at meetings and events as and when needed.
  • To work with the Marketing Team to create content for compelling and up-to-date content for Development marketing materials.
  • Work with the Marketing Team to ensure funders are credited in a proper manner in line with their wishes and Royal Lyceum Theatre policies.
  • Work closely with the Marketing Team to identify opportunities to acknowledge funders and promote giving within Marketing and Press campaigns.
  • Work with the Chair and relevant Board Members of The Lyceum to deliver Development objectives as agreed with the Director of Development and as required.
  • To provide regular updates and reports to the Director of Development as and when needed.
  • To ensure all data collection, extraction and mailings follow GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and Fundraising Codes of Practice.
  • To follow Lyceum policies and procedures as set out in the Staff Handbook including Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Diversity and Environmental Sustainability.
  • To assist in the maintenance of the company’s CRM system and to help ensure it is kept up to date.
  • To contribute to the overall strategic development of fundraising activity on behalf of The Lyceum.
Person Specification


    • Interest in the Arts, especially theatre, and a commitment to The Royal Lyceum Theatre’s aims.
    • Comprehensive understanding of the donor motivations for support.
    • Previous experience in fundraising or development.
    • Excellent research skills to support the identification of Trust and Foundation, corporate and individual prospects.
    • Ability to curate, write and present a compelling case for support that inspires, persuades, and mobilizes support via Trust and Foundation applications, corporate support and individuals.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability in building working relationships with colleagues and confidence in networking and operating at senior levels externally.
    • Experience of working in a target-led, deadline-driven environment with a proven track record of delivering against targets and managing workload effectively.
    • Ability to accurately present information verbally or in writing including briefings and project reports to a range of audiences in a clear and confident manner.
    • Numerate with an attention to detail, strong administrative and organizational skills, and computer literacy, including strong experience of CRM.
