An Edinburgh Christmas Carol

Christmas 2019
An Edinburgh Christmas Carol
written and Directed by Tony Cownie
based on the novel by Charles Dickens

The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh is delighted to present the world premiere of An Edinburgh Christmas Carol, a magical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic Christmas tale, set in Victorian Edinburgh and featuring a host of festive favourites from both the book and Edinburgh’s own history.

Adapted and directed by award-winning Lyceum favourite Tony Cownie (The Belles Stratagem, Thon Man Molière, The Venetian Twins), An Edinburgh Christmas Carol follows curmudgeonly Ebenezer Scrooge as he’s visited by three mysterious ghosts – Lang Syne, Nouadays and Ayont – sent to show him the true meaning of Christmas, before it’s too late!

Writer and director Tony Cownie says:
“I look forward to welcoming Lyceum audiences of all ages to Victorian Edinburgh, where the heartless Scrooge has his shop directly opposite Greyfriars Kirkyard. All the original characters are here, with the exciting addition of a very loyal, determined and lovable neighbour - Bobby."

What is a Relaxed performance?
Relaxed performances are open to everyone, but the environment has been specifically adapted for families with children with an Autistic Spectrum Condition, individuals with sensory and communication disorders, those with learning disabilities and anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed environment.

How is the show adapted?
There is a relaxed attitude to noise from the audience, the lights in the auditorium remain on low throughout the show, sudden loud noises and effects in the production are softened and audience members are free to leave and re-enter the auditorium at any point.  We also have additional staff on hand to assist with seating and access around the Theatre, wheelchair capacity is increased  and there will be a Chill Out Room, where a space is made available for audience members who need a bit of quiet time before and during the performance.

The relaxed performance is open to everyone but patrons with a learning or physical disability, autistic spectrum condition or sensory or communication disorder are especially welcome

We will also create and email you a Visual Story Pack to introduce you to the performance before you come to the show.
