Lyceum Open Day

To celebrate our new season, The Lyceum is throwing its doors open, come and explore our beautiful Victorian building and take part in a whole host of activities inspired by our new vision for the theatre and its place in the city of Edinburgh.

This is a warm-up event for Edinburgh Doors Open Day a city-wide event brought to you by the Cockburn Association, 24 – 25 September 2016.

All activites are FREE and listed below in chronological order.

BACKSTAGE TOURS
Discover the hidden world of The Lyceum’s backstage spaces.

  • 10.15am, 10.45am, 11.45am, 12.15pm,  1.15pm, 1.45pm, 2.45pm, 3.15pm and 4pm

  • Tours involve backstage areas that are only accessible via stairs and walking.

PROGRAMMING A SEASON
Artistic Director David Greig talks through how he programmed his inaugural season and leads an interactive workshop where you get to create your own dream season.

Join two professional actors in this informal workshop which takes you through the building blocks of a career on the stage.

LYT TASTER SESSIONS
Thinking of joining Lyceum Youth Theatre? Try it for size with fun and engaging workshops for all age-groups from 5 to 18 years.

THE HOUR WE KNEW NOTHING OF EACH OTHER WORKSHOPS
Meet director Wils Wilson and take part in a practical session based on Peter Handke's play The Hour We Knew Nothing of Each Other, which forms the last production in this season's Lyceum programme in summer 2017. There will be a chance to find out about the play and do some acting and movement exercises related to the production.

LYT MANIFESTO
Inspired by The Cheviot, the Stag & the Black, Black Oil, the seminal piece of political theatre which opens our season, Lyceum Youth Theatre will create an immersive promenade performance. Performances will take place throughout the day and a timetable will be available in the theatre

We’ve raided the costume and props store so you can get a closer look at some of the breath-taking designs from The Lyceum’s history with experts on hand to tell you more. This display will be open throughout the day.
