LYT Presents: Hacktivists

Lyceum Youth Theatre at the Traverse Theatre
Directed by Christie O'Carroll

New girl Beth is introduced to the Hackerspace, a place of freedom and integrity (which also happens to be a disused portacabin, transformed into an IT suite manned by a group of nerdy hacker friends). Although the group call themselves hackers their activities are entirely harmless... until, that is, their self-proclaimed leader is humiliated by the school bully, and Beth inspires the group to use technology to avenge him!

Hacktivists is a dark comedy that explores the delicate balance between freedom of information and invasion of privacy.

Traverse performances will appear alongside members of LYT showcasing rehearsed readings of brand new work by the Traverse Theatre Scribble Group.

  • Thursday 5 and Saturday 7 March (matinee performance):

Crinkle Cut Dreams by Mel Rozel Brayford
The tale of a young crisp on a quest to break free of the packet and find a new crispy shape, with the help of some flavourful friends.

    Roll Call by Hannah Ledlie
Two lists of names. Two brothers with different stories, hoping for the same ending.

    Audition Day by Erin Speirs
An audition with an unexpected twist allows six wannabe actors to fully explore their emotional ‘range’.

Iris and Jacob by Tallulah Greive
Iris and Jacob haven’t seen each other in months. They have a lot to talk about – mostly Marie.

The Problem with Matteo by Nerida Bradley
Matteo’s done something stupid. Really stupid. So stupid, even his socks have started to judge him.

  • Friday 6 and Saturday 7 March (evening performance):

Alex and Harry by Archie Fisher
Alex and Harry broke up. Now one of them is dead and they’re both in hell, at least metaphorically speaking.

    Olive Jar by Samuel Pearson
John has a marmite sandwich, £5 in change, a whole Battenberg cake and he’s alone…until a lorry full of olives drives by.

A Head in the Family by Max McLachlan
A mysterious box has arrived on the kitchen table. To figure out what it really contains, these siblings will have to use their head.

Crinkle Cut Dreams by Mel Rozel Brayford
The tale of a young crisp on a quest to break free of the packet and find a new crispy shape, with the help of some flavourful friends.
