By William Shakespeare
Directed by Lucy Pitman-Wallace
A co-production between the Royal Lyceum Theatre Company and Nottingham Playhouse.
Foul whisperings are abroad, unnatural deeds do breed unnatural troubles
Liam Brennan (The Winter's Tale, The Merchant of Venice, Othello) stars as the title character, led astray by three conniving witches, and gradually overwhelmed by his own lust for power.
With the encouragement of his scheming wife (Allison McKenzie, River City), Macbeth murders the rightful king and seizes the Scottish throne. And so begins a period of tyranny and fear, cold brutality and civil war. Macbeth’s paranoia and guilt grow stronger by the day, the bodies begin to mount up, and he finds himself haunted by the past and tormented by the fear of losing his new kingdom. Lucy Pitman-Wallace (RSC Sadler’s Wells, York Theatre Royal, Nottingham Playhouse) directs her first Lyceum show, as Season 2008/09 gets off to a stunning start.
Macbeth is a co-production with Nottingham Playhouse and will transfer to Nottingham (22 October to 15 November) after its run here at the Lyceum.
Macbeth is presented as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival
