Open Call Audition for Mr Blue Sky

Open call audition for 16 - 25 year olds to be part of a brand new devised performance project:

Mr Blue Sky

Scratch Performance at Chrysalis Festival – Saturday 18 November 2017
Final Performance as part of LYT: Mind Your Head - Saturday 10 March 2018
Both performances will take place at the Traverse Theatre.

About the Performance

“Mr Blue Sky, please tell us why you had to hide away for so long. So long. Where did we go wrong?”

What does “happiness” mean?

Is happy a sunny day? Is it a box of chocolates or perhaps new shoes? Or is it more? Where does material happiness end and mental happiness start? How can we be happy? What is the secret?

The Scottish Youth Parliament’s 2016 manifesto ‘Our Generation’s Epidemic’ outlines the serious rise in young people coming forward for help with mental health issues. According to the Scottish Association for Mental Health by the age of 16 three pupils in every class in Scotland will have experienced a mental health problem. Why is this happing? What can we do about it? Are these issues real or just another result of generation snowflake? Do you have something to say about it?

Working with the Director Jo Sharp (recent recipient of the Saltire Award for Emerging Directors from Youth Theatre Arts Scotland), the company will create the performance based on ideas which come out of the devising process and present a 20 min work in progress 'scratch' performance at Chrysalis Festival on Saturday 18 November 2017.

After the scratch we will continue to develop the work further for a final performance in March 2018 at the Traverse Theatre.

Am I eligible to audition?

We are holding an open call audition for 16 - 25 year olds, you do not need to be a member of Lyceum Youth Theatre to audition.

Through this process you will have the opportunity to try new writing techniques, choreographic practices and devised theatre conventions to create the performance. We will be exploring songs about happiness as part of the process - confidence playing an instrument or singing desirable but not essential.

You will need to be available for the rehearsal process (available on application to audition) and the performance dates.

Cost: £175, there are limited partial and full bursary places are available upon casting and discussion with Rachael Esdale, Youth Theatre Director.

Please note that professional actors with Equity membership are not able to apply.

How do I audition?

To sign up to the audition on 17 October please email Rachael Esdale, Youth Theatre Director who will be able to give you further information about the rehearsal schedule and the process of booking your audition.
