About 60+ Short Course – Playwriting
22, 29 April, 6, 13 and 20 May 2026
Join us on this practical short course exploring the building blocks and core techniques of playwriting with award-winning playwright Andrew Thompson, whose plays include: In the Event of Moone Disaster, Promises and The Allotment. Over five weeks you will explore the key elements of playwriting, including character, dialogue, and structure, through group discussion and exercises. This course is ideal for theatre enthusiasts looking to enhance their understanding of drama and for those looking to pursue writing for the stage but unsure where to begin.
Andrew Thompson is a previous winner of the Theatre503 International Playwriting Award; The Stage Debut Award - Best Writer; and the Hope Theatre Prize. He is currently a Lecturer in Creative Writing at Newcastle University and is a former Lyceum L20 supported artist.
Please note that this course is part of our Adult Acting programme and is only open to those aged 60+. The course will run for 5 consecutive weeks between 22 April to 20 May 2026, on Wednesday mornings.
