About Karine Polwart & Dave Milligan

Windblown and Earthbound

A unique theatrical opportunity to see the much-loved Karine Polwart in her elegant duo collaboration with renowned pianist Dave Milligan.

Hear from the venerable old Sabal palm of Edinburgh’s Royal Botanic Garden as it approaches its own glasshouse demise. Retrace the Borders boat journey of 18th century Edinburgh geologist James Hutton as he discovers evidence of Deep Time. And honour the 21,000 unmarked dead of Glasgow’s Necropolis graveyard.

Expect an evening of magic and quicksilver poetic provocation, in an intimate set of stripped-back songs and cinematic storytelling - including debut outings for new work.

Karine is a Scottish songwriter, folk singer, and storyteller - and writer/performer of the award-winning and innovative Lyceum production Wind Resistance. Dave is a jazz pianist, composer and music director, whose writing, arranging and improvisation distils folk and traditional influences.

Both musicians live in the same Midlothian village of Pathhead, a familiarity and sense of place that’s evident in this unique creative partnership.

“One voice and one piano can hold a lot of space, a lot of feeling", says Polwart.“And it’s never felt more important to me than now to make music, and tell stories, from exactly where I am”.
