Summer on Stage – Production Skills Course
About Summer on Stage – Production Skills Course
Led by a Theatre professional and supported by Lyceum staff, this course is for anyone who is interested in working behind the scenes, making it all happen.
The first week will feature practical workshops and activities based on Theatre Production areas to get you learning and making friends. Exact workshops vary each year, but to give you an idea, you might be:
- making props for one of the double-bill productions
- learning how to rig and operate Theatre lights
- completing a costume-sourcing challenge in our Roseburn warehouse
- touring the Lyceum or other local Theatre to learn about how it operates and the jobs involved
- spending time in double-bill rehearsals and assisting the professional team
In the second week, participants will be allocated a role (usually lighting, sound or stage management) on either the Junior or Senior production. You'll then join rehearsals and take a practical backstage role during the performances.
This course is suitable for ages 14-19, and no experience is necessary. All workshops and roles are fully supported by Theatre professionals and Lyceum staff; all you need to bring is commitment, creativity and bags of enthusiasm!
"It was exciting to see all the work put into the plays behind the scenes and to be part of the process in a small way. I now know how to works cans, using a lighting and a sound desk, know how to rig lighting, know how to make props."
LYT priority booking open from 10 February.
All bookings will close on Friday 20 June.
