Job Description
Responsibilities include:
Production
• Under guidance from the Head of Lighting work with the creative teams and other technical departments, to realise the production's lighting design to the highest and safest standards.
• Contribute to the design and build of electrical effects and practicals.
• Programming and operation on ETC consoles.
• Operating shows and participating in Get Ins, Fit ups and Get outs.
• Help create a safe working environment during rehearsals, fit ups and performances.
• To attend meetings, technical rehearsals and dress rehearsals as necessary.
General
• Maintenance of all electrical equipment in the building including annual PAT testing.
• Assist with the installation and replacement of electrical equipment.
• To comply with company Health and Safety policies and HSE standards and carry out risk assessments for all work
• To ensure that all creative teams, visiting companies and artists feel welcome, engaged and supported in the building and always receive the highest level of technical support.
• To actively seek out and help implement improvements in the way we work.
• Actively assist in the preparation of the show including colour call, lamp counts and prep of intelligent fixtures.
• Undertake the safe rigging of lights and kit in a flying house during the fit-up process.
• Take responsibility for the patching and plugging up of circuits and dimmers.
• Operate shows throughout runs, including evening and weekend work as standard.
Person Specification
Essential Skills
• Extensive experience of working in lighting for live theatre
• An active interest in Theatre.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
• Knowledge and commitment to Health and Safety legislation and practices including LOLER, PUWER, Working at height, PAT testing etc.
• Experience of installing temporary power systems including distro and dimming.
• Competent in lighting network setup and troubleshooting, MIDI and OSC show control systems.
• Practical experience of LED lighting and control systems.
• Confident working at height.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills with an ability to work well under pressure, able to lead a small team.
• Strongly focused on good communication with the ability to form effective relationships across all company departments, with creatives and within own team.
Desirable
• Full clean driving license.
• PASMA qualification.
• BS7909 qualification
• Experience of Q-Lab, some sound operating background.
• Awareness of ABBT’s Theatre Green Book guidelines and a commitment to pursuing a sustainable and carbon friendly way of working.
• Health and Safety Training
• First Aid Trained.
