Job Description

Responsibilities include:   

  • Actively contribute to the effective operation of the Technical Department’s work.
  • Work with the creative teams and other technical departments to realise the productions Staging and Set requirements to the highest and safest standards.
  • Assist in the realisation of on stage mechanical and motorised effects.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of stage Get Ins, Fit ups and Get outs.
  • Operate the counterweight fly system and other special effects, participate in scene changes and undertake general duties required for the running of performances.
  • Work with other staff to ensure compliance with all health and safety procedures and statutory regulations.
  • Take an active role in show maintenance to ensure the smooth running of set and stage elements.
  • Take an active role in venue housekeeping and equipment maintenance.
  • To attend meetings, technical rehearsals and dress rehearsals as necessary.
  • To ensure that all creative teams, visiting companies and artists feel welcome, engaged and supported in the building and receive the highest level of technical support at all times.
  • To attend training courses as required and take responsibility for ongoing professional development.
Person Specification

Essential Skills 

  • Experience of working in Staging for live theatre.
  • Knowledge and hands on experience of the operation of counterweight flying.
  • Fully conversant in stage and fly terminology.
  • Physically able to lift bulky and heavy lighting and technical equipment.
  • Confident working at height.
  • Knowledge and experience of power tool operation and basic carpentry skills.
  • Good problem solving, fault-finding and decision making skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills including a good standard of spoken and written English.
  • Good ICT skills, including a working knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Knowledge and commitment to Health and safety legislation and practices including LOLER, PUWER Working at height, etc. Confident in identifying and implementing safe working practices and undertaking Risk Assessments.
  • A team-player who is personable, diplomatic and has the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels both internally and externally.
  • An ability to work calmly in pressured situations. 

 

Desirable 

  • Full clean driving license.
  • Awareness of ABBT’s Theatre Green Book guidelines and a commitment to pursuing a sustainable and carbon friendly way of working.
  • Health and Safety Training
  • First Aid Trained or a commitment to undergo training.
