Young PeopleLyceum Youth Theatre
Hello! Welcome to the Lyceum Youth Theatre.
Our terms run alongside the Edinburgh school terms. Our terms vary from 9-12 weeks; a total Lyceum Youth Theatre academic year consists of 31 weeks.
Booking for Spring Term 2025 is now open!
Our Spring Term 2025 will be running from 13 January - 29 March, with no sessions the W/C 10 February due to mid-term break.
We're excited to announce that all age groups across LYT will be working with scripts from Wonderfools' Positive Stories for Negative Times Season 4! Each class this term will be exploring a brand new play that has been written and developed for young people by young people, with playwrights including Ella Hickson, Travis Alabanza, James Ley and Hannah Low. LYT participants will study the texts over the Spring Term in exciting workshops to produce creative responses. This term does not have a performance outcome.
How to book: To book your place, you can either visit your class page below or call our Box Office on 0131 248 4848. Unfortunately, participants cannot pay for a partial term. Please note that current LYT members' booking opens before public booking, so spaces can fill up quickly.
Bursaries: At The Lyceum, we believe that cost shouldn't be a barrier to theatre and therefore have a bursary scheme for members who may face financial barriers when accessing youth theatre. To find out if you could be eligible for support, please email us at LYT@lyceum.org.uk.
Where to find us: All LYT sessions take place in our Creative Learning Space in 30b Grindlay Street.
Please note: We do not permit transfers or swaps of classes during the term. We allow new bookings up to two weeks into the term.
Refunds: A refund may be granted up to two weeks before the term begins. Refunds are not permitted once the term has started.
"LYT makes me feel: Like a good actor and accepted, like I always have friends, Like I am not alone, Accepted, Included, Inspired, Confident, Like I am part of something important, Welcomed”

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Do I need to have studied drama before?
No prior experience necessary – just a sense of curiosity and imagination!
What will I learn?
Classes are designed to develop self-confidence and performance skills. During term, groups create a sharing to be shown to an audience and add to their theatre-making tool kit. Members will learn about the plays that are part of our main stage programme as well as play games and have lots of fun!
We work in a bespoke manner and like to respond to the interests of our groups. Previous topics include improvised comedy, monologues, and Shakespeare. For our younger members we focus on storytelling through immersive play.
Do you operate a waiting list?
If you are interested in joining the groups but are not yet a member, please email LYT@lyceum.org.uk for more information.
Do you offer trial sessions?
Occasionally we run open days which include free workshops for people who want to try drama out – sign up to our mailing list to be the first to hear about new dates.
How do I book?
You can book via our website or call our box office on 0131 2484848. Once you have booked all members will receive a welcome pack and consent form to fill out.
Can I pay per session?
Unfortunately this is not possible.
Can I join a term late?
You can join up until the second week of term but still must pay the full termly fee.
My child has a birthday close to the beginning of a term that would make them eligible for the next group up. What group should I book them on to?
If your child’s birthday falls in the first two weeks of term, they can choose which age group to book onto.
I have access needs; can you accommodate me?
Please contact us at LYT@lyceum.org.uk so we can discuss your specific requirements and how we can accommodate them. In the past, we have been able to organise the following: rehearsal room tours, tutor meet & greets and sending plans in advance of the session.
