Fair Work Statement

Here at The Lyceum, we are committed to the principle of Fair Work for our workforce and applying the principles of Fair Work across our organisation’s activities. This commitment is expressed in the development of our Fair Work Policy and in other policies relating to our workplace - for example, flexible working. It is understood that ensuring Fair Work in the workplace is an ongoing process and that this policy will continue to developed in consultation with employees and the union.

The Lyceum’s Fair Work policy is being developed following the Fair Work First guidance which is the Scottish Governments flagship policy for driving high quality and fair work, and workforce diversity across the labour market in Scotland along with Creative Scotland’s Fair Work guidance.

The policy addresses the five “dimensions” of Fair Work defined by Scotland’s Fair Work Convention: voice; opportunity; security; fulfilment and respect.

Specifically we commit to the following:

  • payment of at least the Real Living Wage
  • providing appropriate channels for effective workers’ voices, such as trade union recognition
  • investment in workforce development
  • no inappropriate use of zero hours contracts
  • action to tackle any gender pay gap and create a more diverse and inclusive workplace
  • offering flexible and family friendly working practices for all workers from day one of employment
  • opposing the use of fire and rehire practice

The Lyceum is accredited by the Living Wage Foundation as a real Living Wage employer.
