The Lyceum Announces New Co-Chief Executive Director

The Royal Lyceum Theatre Company is delighted to announce Mike Griffiths as the theatre’s new Co-Chief Executive Director.

Mike, who became interim Chief Executive of Horsecross Arts in 2018 following working as interim CEO at Eden Court Theatre, has over 30 years’ experience across arts organisations including Traverse Theatre, Citizens Theatre, Scottish Opera, Northern Stage, and Almeida Theatre. An experienced arts administrator, producer and project manager, Mike will join David Greig as Co-Chief Executive Director at The Lyceum on a part time basis from 1 May, beginning full time from 1 July 2019. This follows the departure of Alex McGowan, who stepped down as Co-Chief Executive of The Lyceum earlier this year after seven years in post.

Speaking of the appointment, Artistic Director and Co-Chief Executive Director David Greig said: “I’m delighted that Mike will be joining The Lyceum to help take us forward on to the next stage of our journey. I worked with Mike during his time at The Traverse when he was at the centre of a drive to take Scottish plays out into the world. Since then Mike has built up deep experience of touring and producing in Scotland, and internationally. He’s worked at the top level with The Scottish Government and he’s also supported grass roots Scottish theatre companies and projects like Leith Theatre. Mike knows Edinburgh and its audiences inside out and he cares deeply about the city and its place in the world. Above all, however, Mike loves theatre and the people who make it. I know he’ll bring enthusiasm, ambition, experience and warmth to the role.”

Mike Griffiths said: “I’m delighted to be joining David Greig and the team at the Royal Lyceum Theatre Company. The Company is creating and delivering such an exciting and varied programme of high quality work and I’m looking forward to working with David to excite theatre goers in Edinburgh and beyond, and to continue to encourage a broad range of new audiences to see our shows and get involved in our participatory events and projects.”

The Lyceum’s Chair of the Board, Shonaig Macpherson CBE FRSE said: “Mike brings a wealth of experience to the Royal Lyceum Theatre Company. His expertise will be instrumental in contributing to making David Greig’s artistic vision for the Company a reality, building on recent successes and delivering new opportunities for us. The Board and I look forward to welcoming him.”
