"LYT makes me feel like a good actor and accepted, like I always have friends, like I am not alone, accepted, included, inspired, confident, like I am part of something important, welcomed.”

"X has been thinking about possibly applying to drama school in the future (as well as broadcast journalism or media!) and I think LYT helps with her confidence for that. It's a great space outside of school and with a diverse group of people different to school."

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

How to book

To book your place, you can either visit your class page or call our Box Office on 0131 248 4848. Unfortunately, participants cannot pay for a partial term.

Where to find us

All LYT Sessions take place in our Creative Learning Space at 30b Grindlay Street.

Do I need to have studied drama before?

No prior experience necessary – just a sense of curiosity and imagination!

What will I learn?

Classes are designed to develop self-confidence and performance skills. During term, groups create a sharing to be shown to an audience and add to their theatre-making tool kit. Members will learn about the plays that are part of our main stage programme as well as play games and have lots of fun!

We work in a bespoke manner and like to respond to the interests of our groups. Previous topics include improvised comedy, monologues, and Shakespeare. For our younger members we focus on storytelling through immersive play.

Bursaries:

At The Lyceum, we believe that cost shouldn't be a barrier to theatre and therefore have a bursary scheme for members who may face financial barriers when accessing Youth Theatre. To find out if you could be eligible for support, please email us at LYT@lyceum.org.uk

Do you operate a waiting list?

If you are interested in joining the groups but are not yet a member, please email LYT@lyceum.org.uk for more information.

Do you offer trial sessions?

Occasionally we run open days which include free workshops for people who want to try drama out – sign up to our mailing list to be the first to hear about new dates.

Can I pay per session?

Unfortunately this is not possible.

Can I join a term late?

You can join up until the second week of term but still must pay the full termly fee.

My child has a birthday close to the beginning of a term that would make them eligible for the next group up. What group should I book them on to?

If your child’s birthday falls in the first two weeks of term, they can choose which age group to book onto.

I have access needs; can you accommodate me?

Please contact us at LYT@lyceum.org.uk so we can discuss your specific requirements and how we can accommodate them. In the past, we have been able to organise the following: rehearsal room tours, tutor meet & greets and sending plans in advance of the session.

Changing courses

We do not permit transfers or swaps of classes during the term, but we allow new bookings up to two weeks into the term.

Refunds

A refund may be granted up to two weeks before the term begins. Refunds are not permitted once the term has started.
